I just installed Ubuntu 12.10 on a Acer Aspire One ZG5 (AOA 110), then Skype, and I can't make the microphone work. I tried this method with alsamixer
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/AspireOne522#Microphone
but it doesn't works. The sound is not recognized by alsamixer, nor by the sound settings.
I installed the 12.10 yesterday and like 12.04 there was no sound, I have an ACER 4830 TG.
I noticed that the HDMI output is working fine , But Speaker or Headphone isnt working.
So i did the following:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-audio-dev
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
And still couldn't get the sound .
I've searched the sound threads, but haven't found a solution. OpenSUSE 11.2 64, Audigy 4 sound card, analog stereo speakers. There is no sound at startup, I have to use alsamixer and disable the "S/PDIF Optical Raw" setting, then sound works fine for the rest of my session. How do I save this? I've tried alsactl store as root, but it doesn't save it.
Hello,
I have recently bought an acer 4830tg with this configuration:
cpu i7 2620m, 8GB DDR3, 160 GB SSD, gpu intel integrated and nvidia 540m.
I installed Ubuntu 11.10. I can happily report that it works almost everything, though I have a few problems.
First question is related temperatures and ventilator noise. I read several posts about the cooling system.
On a freshly installed lubuntu quantal ppc I have no alsamixer in terminal. I have reinstalled alsa-utils package and ran the command "sudo rm /etc/modrpobe.d/blacklist.local.conf" which did the trick in 12.04. I still have no sound or audio icon on taskbar, but alsamixer showed up in terminal for a while with a message; "this sound device does not have any controls".

Hey guys,
I've read what feels like every forum post going with regards to this issue, nothing is helping, ive got no sound from my soundcard and yet Pulse volume metre for playback shows sound.
i am trying to set the sound level using a command. i have tried most of the alsamixer options found over the web. i am using the optical out for sound output. when i run alsamixer and hit F6 the device is not listed.

Hi there. I've googled around a bit and searched over the forums but haven't been able to find anything to help my issue.
I just installed Lubuntu 11.10 x64 on my Thinkpad x120e. Everything seems to work perfectly, with the exception of sound.
I have no sound whatsoever.
