http://ubuntuforums.org – Two remote machines - both running 12.04. Most of the documentation goes through configuration etc but I'm struggling on what you use/launch to actually use remote control. I've installed openssh on the remote host and installed Putty on my client machine. (I believe I have openssh client already installed by default but what/where is it?). Anyway, I have a long way to go but I'm trying to set up a basic connection. I have created on my client machine a passphrase and got a key finger print but I do not know what to do now. I launched Putty on my client (installed Putty becuase I do not (Hardware)

Hi all,

Host - Fadora17 desktop 64bit Client - Opensuse 12.2 server KVM - virtualizer.

Openssh server is running on Opensuse server and Openssh client is running on Fadora desktop. I can ssh connect the server on Fadora desktop. Now I expect testing PuTTY, the emulator, which I haven't used before. I have following questions?

1) Do I need to install PuTTY on both server and desktop?

Hi all,

My problem is I was having issues with my home server (ubuntu 12.04), so I restarted it. Then when i tried to use putty to remote in, the ssh service was deleted some how (probably from me, just dont remember doing it). So I have tried uninstalling both openssh-client and server packages but the ssh/sshd services are still not there which means i cant run them.

I have installed Ubuntu Desktop 12.04 (32 bit) and Samba and have a simple file server running that I would like to be able to control remotely from a Windows machine. But I want to be able to control it by a graphical interface - not by terminal.

Hi all, I asked this as a bi-question and someone suggested placing it as a new thread. I have had a notebook with an ethernet plugged in cable before, sent a signal through the cable by resetting my router, and it switched my notebook on from cold. My question is, is there a way of doing this using a remote desktop client.

I have an Ubuntu 12.04.01 desktop PC, 64-bit. It has openssh-server installed.

When I SSH to the server from a linux box it works. But when I use PuTTY from my Windows 7 PC to connect then I just get an immediate error:

The server closed the connection unexpectidely

Both the server and the PC are on the same LAN.
