Hello
just upgraded to kernel 3.4.3-1.fc17.x86_64 and it went panic after 2 minutes.
Now I get a kernel panic message when booting the machine:
Code:

Pid: 1, comm: swapper/0 Not tainted 3.4.3-1.fc17.x84_64 #1
and the call trace which I'm not reporting.

So I made a textbook error, and after I had got everything else working nicely on 12.04, thought I would try to upgrade my Nvidia drivers to "current", since that was recommended, in the hope it would improve 3D performance.
Slight problem: I can no longer boot my kernel.
Hello, first of all i just want to tell you that I'm very new to the Linux world, so please be patient.
Ok, so here is my problem.
I have a Dell laptop with 64-bit Fedora 17 installed on it. I casually updated my system last night using yum. A new kernel was available: 3.5.4-1. After what appeared to be a successful update, I restarted my computer.
I had ubuntu 11.04 installed on my laptop. Then I installed windows 7 and tried to install ubuntu 12.04 on other partition. but when I select try ubuntu without installing or install ubuntu I get same error, "Kernel panic - not syncing : VFS : Unable to mount root fs on unknows-block (0,0)"
"Pid:1, comm: swapper/0 Not tainted 3.2.0-23-generic-pae #36 ubuntu"
Hi i recently installed ubuntu 8.04 on my desktop and in the upgrades menu i gave upgrade to ubuntu 10.04.3 LTS but after installing it started giving me this error
[ 0.694063] Kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root
fs on unknown-block(0,0)
Please help as i am new to ubuntu and also get back to me for additional info if required.

My server is running RHEL6.3, and after shutting down, I am unable to boot up the server.
I have a P4 on an 845g MB running 10.04. I wanted to start fresh, so I download mythbuntu-12.04.1-desktop-i386.iso and used the startup disk creator to make a bootable usb from the image. But I get the following when I try to boot from it. I have tried two different usb drives and checked the md5sum of the iso.
The most recent update fails after updating to kernel 3.2.0.25.27. I get "Kernel Panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(0,0)" when booting.
I can successfully boot by choosing a previous kernel from grub.
How do I fix the update? do i just uninstall and reinstall the kernel?
