Hi All,
Broken something here that I can't find. Hard drives are working at an internal transfer rate of 50k/sec - not a typo - 50000 bytes/sec
Copying files from the Nautilus file panel between 2 hard drives (was 1GB, gave up and used Window$)
Format shifting more music today from CD to hard drive, took 14:50 sec to copy 41MB = 46kB/sec.
It`s been my very first day of using ubuntu 12.10 version in my lappy. As a newbie in ubuntu, i am facing a problem regarding about transferring any files into my drives except the home.
Hello!
I have two hard drives and I want to determine time of copying files from one to other.
I just got an old computer from a friend and I am using it as a mediatomb server. Because the computers hard drives are rather small and I don't have the money for newer ones I am temporarily using 2 usb drives to store all the media.
I am currently in the progress of transferring all my media files from my three other computers to these 2 drives using a third.
I've noticed that when deleting files on secondary (internal) hard drives on my computer, the files are actually moved to my boot drive, where they apparently reside in trash until I empty that trash.I got wind of the problem through noticing how long it took to delete larger (>500 MB) files.
Today i started having a weird problem with my external usb disk, i copied some files to it, and the first bunch copied without a problem, but then it unmounted itself halfway through, and now everytime i try copying something to it it starts copying the file but then it unmount s itself at middle of copying it (usually at exactly 64,4 megabytes for some reason).
On my windows machine I have a few utilities which makes it easy to copy/move large numbers of files from and to different directories, Teracopy is the one I use most.
When I attempt to copy large files (over 4GB) between two external hard drives, the process fails, telling me the file is too large.
So I had a few large files to copy, about 5GB each. From/to same partition. Start the copy, it says '3 minutes left', so I think....a quick solitare game. And poof...system hangs. Nada. Nothing. I wait about 5 minutes, and nada...mouse is obviously not working. Power down, reboot. And of course the new directory I was copying to doesn't even exist after a reboot.
