I got a new laptop(Samsung NP530U3C) which comes with 24GB of a SSD and a 500GB hard disk. I installed Ubuntu on the SSD and made a ext4 partition on the hard disk for saving media files. Boot loader got installed on the hard disk.
Everything worked fine until I deleted the ext4 partition on the hard disk.
Post title explains it all, here is more info.
I have a server with 3 hard disks, here is the layout:
hard disk 1: /boot and swap partition (DEAD)
hard disk 2: raid1 member
hard disk 3: raid1 member
I installed the boot parition on a separate hard disk because I read somewhere that it was not advised to put the /boot partition inside a software RAID array (which is what I am currently u

Please do not forget to make your BIOS boot on sda (500GB) disk!
The boot files of [The OS now in use - Ubuntu 12.04 LTS] are far from the start of the disk.
I have a 320gb USB hard drive, one partition for my files, one for playing Wii games, and one which I would like to use for an Ubuntu instillation.
To do this, I partitioned my disk accordingly using Windows, then booted from the Ubuntu CD to install the OS to my external hard drive partition.
I have two HDDs>> hd0 is internal , hd1 is external.
I installed Ubuntu 9.04 in the external hdd as follows:
"\home" ext3-partition in (hd1,2)
"\root" ext3-partition in (hd1,3)
"swap" partition in (hd1,4)
During installation, I changed the bootloader setting.
I was recently having severe windows problems so i installed ubuntu 9.04 because i had a disk they mailed me years ago. I installed it onto a different partition on my hardrive and then deleted the windows partition and expanded the ubuntu partition to fill the entire hard drive so to get rid of the problem partiton.
System has two hard disks: 160GB SSD, which is the boot disk and 500GB RAID1 HDD.
I have Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit installed as the main OS on the SSD.
Just did a clean install of Xubuntu 12.04 amd64 on a new Western Digital wd30ezrx 3TB hard disk - no errors during install.
I'm new to Ubuntu. I've installed Ubuntu 12.04 on a USB flash drive. It boots fine
from the USB stick. But if I remove it and boot again, Window 7 should boot. Well it doesn't. Seems like the hard disk is not there any more. Must have done something wrong while installing Ubuntu. My laptop is an Acer Aspire 1410 without a DVD reader.
The USB flash drive is a 64G Sandisk Cruzer.
