This is sort of a hardware question, but I didn't really think of another place for it on an Ubuntu Forum.
I use a laptop, how can I flash my BIOS from within the Ubuntu 12.10 OS?
It's a Toshiba machine using an American Megatrends BIOS version (1.20)
Why the heck don't motherboard and BIOS manufacturers display the BIOS version in a better place? They could display it on one of the BIOS setup screens - is that just too "far out" and crazy?
I'm trying to properly install Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS 64-bit PC (AMD64) with the alternate install CD ".iso" on a lenovo Thinkpad X220.
Default Hard Disk (with a pre-installed version of Windows 7) has been replaced with a brand new SSD.
The UEFI BIOS of the lenovo Thinkpad X220 is set to "UEFI Boot only" & "USB UEFI BIOS Support" is enabled (I'm using an external USB DVD reader to perform Ubunt
Hi
I have installed Ubuntu 12.10 On a brand new fujitsu Lifebook A552/SL. I have wiped away the whole harddisk and i only have Ubuntu on it now.
Now when i power-up the notebook and press F12 i can't get the Boot menu to boot from CD/DVD or USB or Network boot.. The boot menu is replaced with 1.Ubuntu.
Apologies if this has already been covered; if it has I couldn't find it. First and foremost, this question does NOT pertain to a dual-boot system. I wish to set up a F16 system which uses GPT partitioning and needs a bios boot partition. I have two identical HDD's that will be set up as RAID 1 using software RAID.
I am trying to boot an Ubuntu iso from an USB stick.
My BIOS is from American Megatrends (1985-2005).
There are three boot devices mentioned:
1=CD/DVD, 2=hard drive, 3=realtek boot agent.
At each number I can use one of these 3 options or disabled.
No other options are mentioned.
Also mentioned is Boot from other device, this is set to yes, the other option is no.
How can I boot from USB?
i have a asus n76v, preloaded with windows 8, i have disabled ufei secure boot but the bios does not have boot from cd. i cannot figure out how to build the path into the bios. I was hoping for a dual boot system because of warranty issues but it is not nessary, my other laptop, and my desktop are both ubuntu only. any help would be great.
I have a Dell Inspiron 1420 with Linux Mint 13 on it (Ubuntu 12.11 I think). I have two sticks of RAM 1GB each. Today, I have changed one for a 2GB one. On boot, BIOS noticed RAM change and redirect me to BIOS setup - to change settings so system knows RAM has changed. Couldn't find out how to do it so resume normal boot.
