After attempting to install a libpng1.4.12 I cannot log on anymore on GUI, it crashes back to logon - most likely it's the unity that is crashing.
I thought I could clean-up by installing 12.10
"sudo do-release upgrade -d" does not find any new release.
so .. how can I upgrade ? - or clean up whatever mess the install script caused ?
i want to install BACK TRACK 5 R3 in GNOME 32bit.
i receive error in %41 in install proccess.
"The installer encountered an error copying files to the hard disk:
[Errno 5] Input/output error
This is often due to a faulty CD/DVD disk or drive, or a faulty hard disk.
In preparation for Precise, I would like to know if it's possible to do a release upgrade, but leaving all your data behind, practically ending with a system with a brand new installation, rather than an "upgraded" one.
The server in question I'm trying to do this is a headless server, it's currently running 11.10, and I have no physical access to it.
I am running a headless install of Ubuntu 10.0.4 LTS on a PVS. I was carrying out an OS upgrade earlier on today.
I attempted to upgrade a machine with 11.10 to 12.04 however when it restarted Ubuntu loads and then I get a black screen with the following.
"Stopping system V runlevel comparabilities"
I say another post on how to fix a similar problem but that required the commandline. I don't have that option available. The install did have a hiccup that I'm blaming the problem on.
When trying to upgrade from F16 to F17 using preupgrade, the boot sequence to the F17 option is stopped with the error "The \usr merge script failed..." etc. on reboot.
I've tried to follow the setps in the Bugzilla posting for this but don't show any symlinka back to /etc.
On my Ubuntu 11.10 installation I did an "apt-get dist-upgrade" to upgrade to the next version of Ubuntu, however it was taking quite a while and I went to sleep, when I came back to my computer now 12 hours later the upgrade had locked up on me.
I closed out the terminal window and opened up a new one.
I made sure to remove the locks on directories, and ran "dpkg --configure -a
Trying to upgrade i receive a message "authenticating the upgrade failed, there may be a problem with the network or the server".
Can we upgrade from 11.04 full iso CD, in this case witch version(desktop, server or alternate)?
Any help. thank you
