Died on me a month or so ago. It had been showing signs of failure so I backed it up while it still had some life in it and, since it is 5 or more years old, I shrugged and placed it aside for the time being. Today, having nothing better to do, I disassembled the housing and removed the hard disk. Then I got my handy 5 in 1 adapter kit (external) and plugged the disk into a USB port. It mounted!
I have an Acer Aspire desktop whose hard drive went bad. I installed a new 1T Seagate Barracuda (which replaced a 750M Barracuda). I made recovery disks when I first got the desktop, but when I put disk 1 in, it gets to the recovery options page and won't let me select an option (one is to format the disk and the other is to format it and retain the user files).
I'm experiencing the following problem:
I bought a cabinet Advance model BX-3801STB for 3.5" HDD sata to usb. The disk used is a 500GB Seagate barracuda 7200.11 with firmware updated.
The problem is that it is impossible to format the HDD from ubuntu.
