I have installed the latest version of aMSN (aMSN | Download aMSN software for free at SourceForge.net) which supports sending my webcam video. Unfortunately, it is unable to send my audio at the same time which is highly frustrating.
Does anyone know of a Linux equivalent of MSN which allows video and audio communication.
I live in the US and my girlfriend is in Honduras. She is running Ubuntu 12.04 on a Dell Inspiron 15r laptop. We talk on Skype almost every day. Recently, Microsoft forced her to upgrade Skype to the latest version, 18.104.22.168. I am running the same version. Ever since the upgrade, her webcam barely works. Video is extremely choppy, and audio is almost unintelligible.
I am using Ubuntu 11.10, and my webcam seems to be giving problems. The actual webcam works (at least when I use Cheese), when I click webcam I can see myself in it. However when I try video chatting with someone on gmail they cannot see me. It gives them a black screen. But I can see myself and them.
Webcam stopped working in skype 2.2., it works in cheese, "system/preference/sound"(to turn on microphone) shows the webcam, skype "options/video devices" shows webcam- but 'test' just has a black screen. During calls, the other party sees my avatar image, I see incoming video. The blog/forum suggestions are mostly for Ubuntu 11 & 12.
I have a Logitech C510 webcam connected to my desktop running 64-bit Ubuntu 11.10, but it doesn't seem to be working when I run Cheese and Skype. After doing some search, it seems this webcam should just work out of the box. However, Cheese and Skype don't seem to work with it.
I got a laptop (core 2 duo, 2 GB ram) without a webcam and using Ubuntu v. 12.10 OS. As I wish to make skype video calls with my Family I wish to buy a webcam. My budget is low, so I can't spent a lot on it. As I haven't found any webcam suggestions for the Ubuntu 12.10 OS, but only for earlier OS versions, could you suggest me a webcam type(s) that I could use for skype v.
Ubuntu 9.04 "Januty" works great. Installed Wireless Drivers. Dedicated volume keys, mute key, plus special function key to disable trackpad all work. Suspend and Resume works. The webcam and mic work out of the box with Skype 2.1 Beta (download...
