I have a Gigabyte motherboard and cpu I inherited from my son when he bought a new gaming machine. I changed the BIOS from 8x to 6x multiplier as I don't need the speed and I'd rather it ran cooler and maybe more reliably. However, in system settings > details I don't think the reported speed changed.

Building a new rig, but wondering why there are no more i5s with 4 cores... I remember that earlier when I was checking on the intel website, there were i5s that were quad-core.
I have three machines, and I've been experimenting with commands to set the CPU frequency scaler by hand. This command works on each of my machines, except one of them:
Code:
sudo cpufreq-set -r -g performance
On both of my Core i series machines, that sets the CPU governor to performance for each core.
I have done a sched_setaffinity test in Linux in a server with 1 socket ,4 cores ,
the following /proc/cpuinfo showes the cpu information :
processor : 0
model name : Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q8400 @ 2.66GHz
cache size : 2048 KB
physical id : 0
siblings : 4
cpu cores : 4

I have Ubuntu installed as VM on my laptop. My laptop has quad core with HT technology making it 8 cores.
Within Ubuntu VM I can only use max of 4 cores.
What should I do so I can access all 8?
Which Linux distribution would let me use all my cores? Which VM software should I use?
Any advices?
Quad-core phones? Old news. All the manufacturers are doing that now. How about a 48-core CPU for smartphones and tablets? Intel’s looking to shake up the mobile market and make that kind of processing power a reality within the next ten years.
I have a Dell server with two cpus, each cpu has 6 cores, and each core is hyperthreaded (i.e. should be equivalent to two virtual cores).
Hi, im using an Intel Core 2 Quad (Q8400 @ 2.66ghz) and when i use
