So I finally managed to install Ubuntu 12.04.1 on my G5 iMac but I don't want any fancy visual effects. How do I disable those?

Hey guys!!! I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 LTS on an old hardware. Everything is working perfectly but when i'm disabling visual effects, my desktop works slower. I mean when i want to see my desktop the desktop icons pop up slower and when im making a drag box with mouse it begins to freeze! Turning visual effects to normal solves this problem, but i don't want these effects to be on.

Hi, I'm having some trouble running the Extra or Normal Settings in the Appearance/Visual effects setting on ubuntu 8.10 kernel 2.6.31-12. with an Intel GMA X4500HD. I get an error message that says "Desktop Effects could not be enabled."

I'm trying to get compiz to run and avant dock does not seem to respond either without the Visual effects enabled.

Hi everybody! Couple of weeks ago tried to install the driver from official Nvidia site and it worked perfect with all the visual effects until first reboot and then i couldn't fix it so i switched to restricted drivers now.

I've got a fresh image of BT5R3-GNOME-32-VM running in VMWare Player 5.0.0 build-812388 on a 32-bit Windows XP SP3 machine.

It's preloaded with VMWare tools (and I've tested and found copy/paste and all that working), I've enabled video acceleration in the virtual machine in VMWare Player, but when start X and go to System->Preferences->Appearance->Visual Effects they're all grayed out

Ok, I got this hp Pavillion dv4 laptop which came with Vista. I installed ubuntu 9.10. The problem is my wireless doesnt seem to work; the visual effects also do not seem to take effect when activated. I need some help here.

I am using ubuntu 9.04 on ATI RADEON HD 2400 PRO Card. After installing ubunbtu when i tried to enable ati restricted driver from system-hardware (for enabling 3d Effects ie compiz ) I found a blank screen and on above it shows "No Proprietary Drivers are in use on this system".
