openSUSE as a project always looking to improve and grow and this is one of those opportunities: Google Summer of Code! Google Summer of Code (GSoC) is a program that offers students an paid opportunity to write code for several open source projects. The purpose is to benefit open source projects and encourage young developers to hack and learn.

1.- Google Announces Summer of Code Accepted Projects Google has announced the accepted projects list for its 2011 Google Summer of Code (GSOC) Program.

The KDE community is excited to accept 51 students into the Google Summer of Code program this year. Their projects will touch KDE on almost every level, and integrate the students into our community with some likely to become longtime KDE contributors. The next month will be spent on community bonding, getting to know the people and the code behind the project they'll be working on.

For the 7th year in a row KDE has been accepted as a mentoring organisation for Google Summer of Code. We are delighted to be able to work with great students throughout the summer again. This summer, openSUSE had a great experience for the fifth time participating in the Summer of Code. While working on the list of ideas for GSoC projects, we decided to encourage students to apply not only for openSUSE-specific projects, but also for projects that would be useful to our upstreams and to other distributions.
