Yesterday (November 27, 2012) was the 15th birthday of KDE e.V. (eingetragener Verein; registered association), the legal entity which represents the KDE Community in legal and financial matters. We published interviews with two of the founding members (Matthias Ettrich and Kalle Dalheimer) on the why, what and when of KDE e.V. in the beginning.

My favorite desktop environment just turned 15. The K Desktop Environment (KDE) has come a long way. There were good times and bad times, and I temporarily abandoned it during one of those bad times. But like many KDE users at that time, I was convinced that I had a good reason to.
But all that’s history. Now I love my KDE.
Dot Categories: Community and EventsToday, KDE celebrated its 16th birthday. On October 14, 1996, Matthias Ettrich started KDE. Since then, amazing women have helped make KDE what it is today. Women like Anne-Marie Mahfouf, Eva Brucherseifer, Alexandra Leisse, Celeste Lyn Paul, Anne Wilson, Claire Lotion, Lydia Pintscher, Myriam Schweingruber, Claudia Rauch and many many more.
The last few years has seen the company formerly known as Trolltech open their arms to one of the largest parts of their supporting community, KDE, in a new way: By offering a few members of the KDE community free admittance to the Qt Developer Days conference.
