I'm not sure when it happened but this version 12.10 will not recognize my external monitor. 12.10 works fine on my Dell laptop. And I verified the monitor and its cords are fine.

I am having a strange problem with my external monitor. I recently installed Ubuntu 14.04 (64 bit) on hp elitebook 840 g1. I connected my laptop to an external monitor which has full HD option. Everything was working fine.
The strangest thing has happened and resetting/reconfiguring x-org has not resolved it. I deleted monitors.xml, but that didn't work.
I installed updates to Ubuntu 14.04 and rebooted. Now, my laptop's internal monitor shows fine. The external monitor is split. 1/3 is an inaccessible region like a partial recurrence of the internal monitor. However, the cursor never shows on it.
My laptop is connected to an external monitor via DisplayPort(in a port in the docking station). When I boot my laptop while it is connected to the docking station everything works fine, but if I detach the laptop from the docking station and reattach it, the external monitor does not wake up.
I recently set up a second monitor, and old Xerox XL370b. What I'm trying to do here is run one monitor off of my graphics card, an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 650, and the other off of integrated graphics. I'm able to set up the monitor just fine in Windows 8.1, but it only works briefly upon turning the monitor on.
Good morning. Hopefully someone can explain what's going on here. I've got Lubuntu running on an Acer Aspire D270. Everything runs fine, actually smoother and faster than I expected for this little laptop with only 1 gig of ram.
Here's the situation: Since the screen on this laptop is pretty small for regular use, when I'm home I connect to an external monitor.
Hi All, I have a laptop which is connected to an external monitor via a display port (monitor is primary, laptop screen is disabled). All as been fine until the last few weeks/month. When I power the laptop up, it does not always see the external monitor, and when it does the resolution is wrong.
I have my laptop docked at work (Dell E6510 Nvidia card) and have my external monitors work fine.
But if I restart my laptop without an external monitor then my laptop monitor remains disabled.
How can I change this?
The xorg is configured using nvidia-settings.
I am running 64 bit Kubuntu 12.04.
Below is my xorg file which does not have any LVDS display.
How should I change this so that my
When Ubuntu boots, the second monitor mirrors my other monitor, but when the login screen pops up, the monitor doesn't get any signal from my computer. When I go to monitor setup, it is not detected. If I unplug my first monitor, the second works fin with Ubuntu. When I tried 11.10 on a flash drive, it worked fine as a dual monitor. The default seems to be VGA over the DVI connection. Help?
