Hi,
Apologies if this is somehow covered elsewhere. I've done a good bit of searching to no avail.
I'm running 2 monitors from a fresh install of F17 on my Dell Latitude D410.
Monitor 1: the laptop's LCD screen - detected, all fine and dandy.
Monitor 2: an external flatscreen monitor.
When Ubuntu boots, the second monitor mirrors my other monitor, but when the login screen pops up, the monitor doesn't get any signal from my computer. When I go to monitor setup, it is not detected. If I unplug my first monitor, the second works fin with Ubuntu. When I tried 11.10 on a flash drive, it worked fine as a dual monitor. The default seems to be VGA over the DVI connection. Help?
I have a dell Inspiron 1521 laptop and once in a while I need to plug it in my 32" TV/Monitor. Everything works fine until I need to type some key on the laptop keybaord. When I touch any key the display drop from the external monitor and switchs to the LCD on the laptop.
hi. i've just installed fedora 18 (default options) on an acer aspire 5735 laptop. i use an external monitor with this laptop so the sequence of events when turning it on are as follows :
open laptop
press power button
close laptop
as the laptop boots i see the grub menu and the luks password prompt on the external monitor.

I just installed a fresh copy of Ubuntu 12.04, and before I installed drivers, I was able to get my two monitor setup working just fine. However, after updating all my drivers and installing all the recommended software, my second display is no longer detected. My main display is called "Laptop" (which it was detected as the monitor name previously), but it is the only display listed.
Just upgraded to 11.04 and loving it. :D
However, when I boot the acer aspire 5100 laptop with external VGA monitor plugged in, or when I attach it after boot, both screens pixilate and I can't see a thing. Unplugging the monitor doesn't help and I have to reboot.
It works perfectly if the external monitor is never attached
Happens regardless of gnome or unity used. Maybe a driver thing?
Hi there,
I am trying to connect my external monitor with my laptop and to use it as the only output. If I disable the laptop display, activate the external monitor and set it as the primary output, everything seems to work fine. Yet the desktop displayed by KDE seems to be twice the length of the physical monitor. That means that e. g.
