I have two cryptsetup volumes with the same password that I want to open in a bash script, and I want to avoid writing the passphrase twice. I was thinking of using read -s. Is there any security problems with this?
The other alternative would be to have a password file on a small partition encrypted with a passphrase.
Hi all,
I lost my bin, boot, etc folders and my home folder is encrypted. I also forgot my passphrase, I tried to recover the passphrase but no luck!
Can anyone tell how to recover my home folder.. Any help is highly appreciated!
I just converted my Acer Aspire One netbook over from Windows to KDE Fedora. So far everything has been working well but I can't figure out how to connect to an encrypted wireless network that uses a passphrase.
I have my home folder encrypted. If I change my login password with the passwd command, do I need to change anything else for the encrypted home folder to still work properly?
Also, if I need to access the encrypted directory manually later on (from a liveCD, putting the HDD in another machine, etc.), do I need to use the login password or the passphrase to get into it?
I followed this guide https://help.ubuntu.com/community/En...hEncryptedSwap to enable hibernate with encrypted home folder. Everything works well except passphrase prompt: startup doesn't pauses and I have no ability to enter passphrase - system shows login screen right after the propmt.
Thanks!
I changed my password, and was unable to log on.
I went into root area, and changed password there.
When logging on, it kicks me back to main screen.
I used ecryptfs-rewrap-passphrase /home/.ecryptfs/$USER/.ecryptfs/wrapped-passphrase,
It asked for old wrapping passphrase, which I assumed was my initial password.
It asked for new wrapping passphrase (twice).
I got an error: Unwrapping passphrase
i encrypted this phone to let my brother have it
now i wonder if i can decrypt it
or will it now forever need a password to be used?
or will the encryption dissappear as i do a hard reset?
i know the password but i want to remove the encryption
i encrypted it to make my files even more hard to retrieve
now i am worried this encryption is permanent
is it?
Ok so let me summarize this up.
I encrypted my Home to protect against hackers of course when I first installed Ubuntu. It loaded up the Terminal and was attempting to show me my encryption password incase it ever needed to be used. So I thought "Ehh what the heck, I can find it out later..." So I closed Terminal and went on with the (amazing!) Ubuntu life.
#1 I'm very new to the ubuntu home directory encryption or rather ecryptfs
folder encryption. I read about the same within Dustin's blog & tried
implementing it.
Problem or query is
my home directory is encrypted & has a www folder ...
