http://www.ubuntuhcl.org – The manufacturer does not want to release a driver for it, there for it is not working. But a 3rd party developer created a driver for it, it only fixes the resolution and 2D acceleration. 3D acceleration still does not work. Avoid SIS products. (Hardware)

I have a quite old laptop with a S3 Twister K which correspond to a ProSavage KN133 so the savage driver gets used. This chip is far from a powerhouse, but it can move enough textured polygons to run even UT2003 with decent speed (back then when the first demo got released on windows).

I saw there's a new driver from NVIDIA and install through the ppa method. Reboot my system and still can't seem to change my screen resolution.

I have been experiencing a NIC related issue, so I installed a driver from the manufacturer and blacklisted the original driver included in the kernel.

3D Support for Radeon 9600 3 years 22 weeks ago

Hi,

I have an ATI Radeon 9600 video card on openSUSE 11.2 and I wish to enable 3D acceleration to get all the eye-candy working.

As I understand it, fglrx will not work because ATI has relegated support of this video card to the legacy driver, which does not support the latest version of X.

Chris Wilson of Intel OTC announced the release of the xf86-video-intel 2.21.4 X.Org driver on Monday morning.

Jockey (hardware drivers) detect my NVIDIA driver and says it's activated and in use, however, changes to CCSM don't take effect.

Last week I installed Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS 64 Bit on my DELL Studio 1555 laptop. Everything seemed to work perfectly out of the box, including wifi and bluetooth. 3d acceleration, however was quite slow using the open source radeon drivers. So I installed the catalyst driver and 3d acceleration was working just fine.

So I have an older Radeon X600 PCIe card I'm using in a server right now, and unfortunately it appears there is no Catalyst support from ATI.I need this card to support 3D acceleration because I need 3D acceleration in VirtualBox, which I run headless from the server.

Just shy of a month ago was when NVIDIA last released a proprietary Linux driver, at which point they also released a second driver that was their OpenGL 4.1 preview driver. This Saturday though NVIDIA has provided a new driver release, which is tagged as the 256.52 pre-release.
