What I'm wondering is, is it possible to get the Gnome2 source out of 10.10 and build it on something like 11.10? Or even a different OS? I can't seem to get my hands on the Gnome2 source anywhere. I've been minimally involved, but I see very often people clamoring for changes which go against the direction Unity is going; against, not just off to a side.
