Hostname changes / nameserver problems?

http://forums.cpanel.net – So I noticed when you change your hostname, the hostname does not change in the dns entries.. Is there a way to change the hostname globally / all together? I've tried changing it via WHM + updating the records, still does nothing to anything else.. Can't access domains, i've already updated name servers, however for some reason it does not show up in whm (show/edit reserved ips, show or delete ip addresses, or show ip address usage).. Not sure what I'm doing wrong.. The nameservers are correct in the dns entries, and does show under dns functions > nameserver ips CLOUDLINUX 6.3 ()

Hi, i was trying to do the initial WHM setup in my VPS after cpanel installation, and I stuck on Step 4:Nameservers

here is what i entered:

Nameserver 1 ns1.mydomainname.com Nameserver 2 ns2.mydomainname.com

Add A Entries for Nameservers & Hostname

Add "A Entries" for all Nameservers ( the box was checked) Please enter an IP address for each of your nameservers. ns

I have a virtual server running Debian Squeeze. I can change the hostname by running the hostname new.host.name command or by editing /etc/hostname and then running /etc/init.d/hostname.sh, but after a reboot the hostname will be reset to the preconfigured hostname chosen by the server-hoster.

When I try to edit my /etc/hostname file, using: sudo nano /etc/hostname (or any other editor) I get the following: Error writing /etc/hostname: Permission denied

I then tried to: sudo chmod u+w ./hostname and got the error: chmod: changing permissions of `./hostname': Operation not permitted I get the same error trying to add write permissions to any use or group.

This is what ls show: -rw-r--r

I tried to change my hostname according to this guide for Debian based system:

I edited /etc/hostname file run /etc/init.d/hostname start

Though there are errors. Always when I write a sudo command it tells me it can't recognize hostname. After I restarted the system, graphical environment wasn't working, startx command wasn't successful.

I currently have my server with a hostname vps.domain.com, how can i change the hostname to for example vps.newdomain.com?

When i have tried to do this i am able to change the hostname and reach the login page for WHM/Cpanel at vps.newdomain.com but it says my credentials are invalid even though they are correct.

I have a question, and I am not sure whether it is possible or not?

I am running LAMP with cPanel/WHM.

I used hostname NEWHOSTNAME and set a new hostname. Then I restarted, and tried accessing the internet and nothing happened.

I'm updating my mail servers' rDNS and I think I have it all figured out except for one thing.

When I installed my OS (Debian Etch), the installer asked me to enter the "domain name".

Is the "domain name" updated by using the hostname command? If so, which config file(s) are updated when using the hostname command? If not, how do I change my servers' domain name?

My current /etc/hosts:

Please could you help me with an issue that I'm having?

I have a domain which I also have configured to be the hostname of the server

The Hostname is leopard.*****.com

The Root IP is **.***.24.146

I initially set the nameservers up as below:

ns1.*****.com - **.***.24.147 ns2.*****.com - **.***.24.148

But I have since changed them to be ns1: **.***.24.146 & ns2
