Waldorf has replaced Xubuntuview story

http://crunchbanglinux.org – Just recently replaced an older Xubuntu 11.04 install, with #! Waldorf (w/XFCE), on a fairly new desktop PC. The performance gains are incredible, from startup to shutdown, and everything inbetween. Although I won't get into the specifics, unloading the *buntu middle man really makes a difference.  Installer worked great and system working flawlessly. (HowTos)

HP LaserJet P1102w detectionview story

https://bbs.archlinux.org – I have an HP LaserJet P1102w printer that hp-check will not recognize. I figured out that this comes from a problem with HP making the absolutely absurd decision to enable "Smart" Install by default without providing a (reasonable) way to switch it off without Windows. I do not have access to a Windows machine at the moment and the Linux solution posted by dudinea is not working for me. (HowTos)

How can I stop my Linux machine from broadcasting its name on the network?view story

http://unix.stackexchange.com – I have a Linksys router and I've noticed that when I look for connected PC's on the router, the name of my computer and MAC address of the wireless device appears. However, I've noticed that for some devices it appears only the device MAC address, without a name. For example, Apple computers connected to the router appear without a name. (HowTos)

[ubuntu] Simple Scan - No scanners detected ...view story

http://ubuntuforums.org – I've had my MFC-440CN printer scanner working with several prior Ubuntu releases - but 12.04 just will not recognize the driver. The driver installs without error. There also are numerous posts that other folks are seeing this same problem. When I start Simple Scan, I get "No scanners detected". Is there a fix for this??? Thanks Carl (Hardware)

[ubuntu] Ubuntu 12.04 - Epson XP-200 print queue says Stoppedview story

http://ubuntuforums.org – I recently installed Ubuntu 12.04 and was able to install an Epson XP-200 (via USB) printer. Worked through a couple minor issue then was able to coax the OS to see and install the printer drivers from Epson. Everything good so far. Problem: After I click print, the print queue status displays Stopped. Any ideas? I know enough of Linux to be dangerous so this is a learning opportunity. (Hardware)
