Out of the box it seems reasonably responsive, however I have been unable to successfully install NVIDIA drivers, either from the Jaunty repositories or from NVIDIA directly. In both cases upon rebooting the response is very slow, unusable really. What am I doing wrong? (Hardware)

I've tried all of the suggestions provided in these forums. I've restarted the computer. I still have no volume. I have a Dell Inspiron. Ubuntu was installed already; I did not install it myself. I even looked at the alsamixer in the terminal and everything is at 100%. (Hardware)
