[ubuntu] How to Disk Checkview story

http://ubuntuforums.org – I have recently dropped a running laptop to the floor, and somehow, the laptop drive (WD scorpio) actually disconnected from the IDE interface and fell out of the laptop. Currently it boots, but not certain if there are other issues. What kind of commands do I need to check the disk, or do I need a rescue CD with WD tools? (I am running 9.10) (Hardware)

[ubuntu] Keep ACPI from controlling the fan or effectively heat computer up?view story

http://ubuntuforums.org – Hi! Due to a faulty BIOS it seems as if Ubuntu is unable to turn the fan on again after it has once been turned off, leading to the laptop becoming really hot. The fan is turned off when it goes below 50C. If I boot with ACPI=off the fan runs all the time which is fine with me. I see two solutions to which I need some advice: (Hardware)
