[ubuntu] Speech Recognition Deadend?view story

http://ubuntuforums.org – Gnome-voice-control is MIA in the soft sources as is Simon. Compiling either has proven daunting even with the dated instructions. Perhaps Ubuntu changes too fast. As it is speech control seems out of reach of common 11.10 users. Anyone have an idea what still works? (Ideally free) (Hardware)

[ubuntu] Open Office will open some docx, not othersview story

http://ubuntuforums.org – Open office seems to be arbitrarily choosing which files it will open and wont. I have no problem opening these files on windows system. And I don't have problems with most docx's. It doesn't give an error, it just loads the splash screen, the progress bar fills as though the doc is loading and then..... nothing. Absolutely nothing happens.... And again this is only on the occasional docx. (Hardware)

http://ubuntuforums.org – In my office, we have replaced our fax machine with a dedicated computer running Ubuntu 10.04 (Desktop) and hylafax, hooked up to an external serial modem. Everything works well, except for an odd, intermittent problem: the fax server will occasionally lose its connection to the LAN. As the server is headless, when it does this, there is no way to see what is going on in any log files. (Hardware)
