Ruby- why won't "if __FILE__ == $0" work?view story

http://ubuntuforums.org – I'm playing around with Ruby for the first time & I just did a tutorial. I copied the script shown below. I saved it as a .rb file, then I called it in terminal. It pukes at Code: if __FILE__ == $0 When I remove that line (and the "end") the script runs fine. Can anyone tell me why the line isn't working? Here's the script. (Hardware)

[ubuntu] (11.04) 10 Minutes to shut down... Idea's?view story

http://ubuntuforums.org – I suppose its not that big of a deal, because my system starts up quite fast. But for some reason, shutting down can take as long as 10 minutes, which can be irritating when rebooting. I assume some error is causing this, but I don't know where to begin with identifying and solving the problem. I think it may have something to do with a permanent network drive I have mounted in fstab taking a w (Hardware)

[ubuntu] can hidden encryption make an os unable to boot?view story

http://ubuntuforums.org – I have Ubuntu 10.04 and Win7 ultimate on their own partitions, roughly 50/50 of the HDD. I was considering using Truecrypt to encrypt the entire Windows partition. Thats easy enough. Where I'm concerned is I want to make it a hidden encrypted partition (why do it otherwise). Simply put, If I make it hidden will I still have the Windows 7 Loader in my boot menu? [ubuntu] Correct swap sizeview story

http://ubuntuforums.org – Guys, I've read around the internet that there's no need to use a large swap size, but I have also read that if you use hibernation, you should set the swap memory the same size of your RAM memory amount. My laptop computer has 4 GB of RAM and I plan to add 4 GB more, making it 8 GB. I use hibernation a lot. My question is... what is the correct swap size I have to set up? (Hardware)

[other] Manually resizing a windowview story

http://ubuntuforums.org – I have a host that's running *only* X, with no Desktop Environment (DE) or Window Manager (WM). It's only a ultra-skinny X box, to support a lean media centre. I basically `xinit` XBMC to start at boot (via a combination of startup configs/scripts), and I've created a simple bash script that I invoke from within XBMC to run GMPC as my MPD client. (Hardware)
