How to deal with worn-out USB port?view story

http://superuser.com – I have a Sony VAIO, about 5 years old, where the USB port that I use for the mouse is wearing out and making a poor/intermittent connection. I transport the unit back and forth to work every workday, and so there are two connect/disconnect cycles a day, leading to the wear. Thankfully, the unit has two other USB ports, but is there any good way to "rescue" the worn one? (HowTos)

Not knowing anything about encryption, I thought I'd ask for any advice you can give: which algorithm should I use that gives reasonably strong encryption, without going overboard with CPU/time? https://www.kubuntuforums.net – On the surface, it seems a little odd to consider people I've never actually met face-to-face as friends. Further internal examination begs the question: What makes us consider another person a "friend" over an acquaintance or passer-by or even a not-friend? (HowTos)
